2 teens in custody after chase and crash in NW Wichita
WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) — Wichita Police say a reported kidnapping led to a chase and crash in northwest Wichita.
Captain Ron Hunt says it happened shortly before 12 p.m. when police were notified of a possible abduction of a 16-year-old girl by two men in what was believed to be a stolen vehicle in downtown Wichita. Captain Hunt says that using the Flock camera system, they were able to track the vehicle to northwest Wichita.
Officers soon learned that the girl had been dropped off at her home, and after speaking with her, they learned she was actually a runaway, and it wasn’t a kidnapping. However, after talking to the girl, they learned that the two 17-year-old boys she had been with may have been heading to another area school, intending to hurt someone there.

Captain Hunt says the Flock system tracked the vehicle to the area of 29th and Tyler. Police from Maize and troopers with the Kansas Highway Patrol, along with a KHP helicopter, began searching for the suspects.
As an officer was heading northbound on Tyler, the suspects were headed south. They believe the driver became distracted by the northbound patrol car, ran the red light, and crashed into at least three vehicles at the intersection.
The two teens, who were believed to be armed, ran. A police K9 apprehended one of the teens, who police say was armed with a gun. Captain Hunt says several more guns were recovered from the stolen vehicle. The second teen was found a short time later hiding in a bush.
The incident prompted an alert to be issued by Sedgwick County via email and text message, warning residents and businesses in the area of 21st and Tyler Road to “stay inside and lock their doors and windows.”
