British businessman ‘was having affair with daughter-in-law he tried to drown’
Jasmine Wyld had been in a romantic relationship with Mark Gibbon, it was claimed
A British businessman was having an affair with his daughter-in-law, whom he is accused of trying to drown in Florida, it has been claimed.
Mark Gibbon, 62, has been charged with attempted murder after allegedly holding Jasmine Wyld’s head underwater while the pair were on holiday.
Police were called to reports of a disturbance at the Solterra Resort in Davenport, Florida, on Saturday evening where Mr Gibbon was staying with Ms Wyld and her two children.
According to Ms Wyld and witnesses, Mr Gibbon was in the swimming pool with his 33-year-old daughter in-law when the pair started arguing about his grandchildren, police said.
Polk County Sheriff’s Office said: “Gibbon is accused of pushing and holding the victim’s head underwater multiple times, preventing her from breathing.
“The victim’s nine-year old daughter jumped into the pool in an attempt to stop Gibbon from drowning her mother.”
A family source told MailOnline Mr Gibbon had been in a romantic relationship with Ms Wyld, a British hairdresser, for the past two years after their respective marriages broke down.

Ms Wyld is divorced from Mr Gibbon’s son, Alex, with whom she shares two children.
The source said: “A family source told us that Alex and his father no longer speak – and last year Alex was jailed for trying to drive a car at his estranged father.
“Mark and Jasmine have been seeing each other for a few years, but they’ve never admitted it.
“Alex and his dad don’t speak at all. There have been a number of issues within the family.
“He feels an awful betrayal at how his dad has struck up a relationship with the mother of his two children.
“Mark and Jasmine do an awful lot together and they go away on holiday with the children a couple of times every year.”
‘Will caused tension’
The source went on: “She is always round at his house. She has a place of her own but she’s nearly always in Beaconsfield with Mark.
“They went to Florida two years ago and have been to Budapest where she posted pictures of them together like a couple.
“I don’t know for sure what happened on this holiday and why Mark has apparently tried to drown her.
“But I have been told that Jasmine was unhappy that they have been in a relationship for a few years and she is not named in his will.”
The source revealed that Mr Gibbon was due to leave his entire £800,000 estate to his two grandchildren.
The source said: “His will has caused some tension in the family.”
Alex, 34, had worked with his father and was appointed a director with Ultralight UK Limited in 2019.
However, he left the company in 2023 and following an argument with his father, ran him over. He was sentenced to a jail term and was released six months ago.
The younger Gibbon also pleaded guilty to harassing Ms Wyld in the past.
County Sheriff Grady Judd said: “We expect vacationers to behave while they visit with us. Because Mr Gibbon couldn’t control his anger, he may find himself spending a lot more time in Florida than he had anticipated.”
US police said Mr Gibbon allegedly admitted to pushing his daughter-in-law underwater, but said he did not intend to drown her.
Mr Gibbon, who was also charged with battery, will face court on Sept 9.
