A Woman Kept Her Friend’s Suitcases That Were Too Heavy for a Flight. Now, She’s Expected to Pay to Mail Them Abroad

NEED TO KNOW

  • A woman offered to keep her friend’s suitcases that were too much for a flight when they were moving abroad

  • In a post on Mumsnet, the woman revealed her friend now wants her to pay to mail the luggage to their overseas address

  • “I am shocked that she not only thought I’d pay but became so aggressive when I said I couldn’t afford to!” she said

A woman is stressed over her friend’s demand for her to post multiple suitcases to their new overseas address.

The woman explained on Mumsnet that she has been keeping her friend’s luggage at her home because they were too much for her friend to carry on their international flight. Once her friend settled into her new home, the woman sent her several quotes for how much it would cost to send the suitcases.

“She’s got extremely angry and upset, claiming that I should pay,” the woman said of her friend. “She offered me less than half of the money as that’s all she has available in her bank account in the country where I live, but is not offering to wire any money over.”

“She’s claiming I repeatedly promised I would pay (which I never, ever said – I was mortified when I found out she thought I was paying!),” the woman added.

The woman said her friend has been implying that she’s trying to steal the items by refusing to pay to mail them and is accusing her of being “disorganized” for not having already sent the items.

Despite apologizing for the misunderstanding, the woman said her friend remained angry and argued she’s a liar for saying she’s never agreed to pay. The woman said the heated exchange left her so anxious that she had to temporarily block her friend to calm down before going to work.

“For reference, it’s over $200 to send, she offered me around $60,” the woman said. “I am a single mom of two living and working alone abroad, whereas she is single, has no kids and lives rent-free in her family home.

“I am shocked that she not only thought I’d pay but became so aggressive when I said I couldn’t afford to!” she continued. “I have said I’ll send it to another friend so they can send it to her, but the other friend is abroad at the moment and also feels that she should send the money, so I’m not sure they will actually accept the bags when they return!

“What would you do?” the woman asked.

The comment section of the post was flooded with people encouraging the woman to continue refusing to pay for the postage.

“I’d give her a definite time frame for sending you the money and if she doesn’t send it, just give the clothes to a charity shop,” one person wrote.

“Wow! What an utter CF [cheeky f—er]! She knows that she is in the wrong but she hopes she can get away with it by bullying you into paying it for her. Stand your ground,” another said.

“Tell her that she’s lucky you’re not charging her storage fees for her stuff. She’s a really CF,” a third chimed in.

“Why on earth would you want to bankroll her baggage costs?! She’s insane to think you’d love to do that,” someone else added. “It’s her cost, she is completely a cheeky f—-er. I agree a deadline or dump the stuff. Either way, block and drop this friendship going forward. She is not someone you want in your life.”
