Active shooter alert at University of Arkansas: Live updates

All clear notice given

2:56 p.m. The Fayetteville Police Department and RazAlert system say there are no active threats at this time on the University of Arkansas campus after law enforcement responded to multiple reports of an active shooter. Reporter Jackson Fuller said Mullins Library remains closed at this time and that future communications about the campus closure will come from the university.

The campus’ active shooter protocols have been lifted and students are free to leave campus. The remainder of Monday’s classes have been canceled but classes will resume Tuesday.

‘It was weird getting that text in that building and not hearing anything’

2:33 p.m. Freshman student Michael Kittell received the active shooter alert while on campus.

“I was packing up to go before the text came out. Then, everyone got up. I didn’t know what was happening. We all have the same class times? Then I saw the text. ‘Oh, damn,’ Kittell said. “We went down the hallway and I went out the back with a bunch of guys from the second floor. We got down to the bottom floor at the fire escape and there was a deputy there helping us leave.“Everyone said they didn’t hear anything. I didn’t hear anything. It was weird getting that text in that building and not hearing anything.”

2:21 p.m. There were multiple reports throughout campus. The police responded to all reports and have found no evidence. They are currently operating as if there is no active shooter on campus. Police are still on campus trying to assist with any students who may still be sheltering.

‘… Just a bunch of yelling’

2:08 p.m. Raiden Morton was on the second floor of the library, considered the entry-level floor, when the incident occurred near one of the large entrances in the middle of the library.

“People were walking through the library, and some were sitting at the tables, but it wasn’t like super heavy traffic,” Morton said. “I heard some yelling and people around me started moving, then I heard a man’s voice yelling, ‘Shots fired,’ and I turned and ran to the exit.”

Morton said he didn’t hear any shots but just a bunch of yelling.

Some Fayetteville schools remain on lockdown

2:00 p.m. Authorities are asking the following schools to remain under lockdown status, with their school day continuing: AALPS, Asbel Elementary, Fayetteville High School, Leverette Elementary, Ramey Junior High, Washington Elementary and Woodland Junior High. All other Fayetteville schools resumed normal status as of 1:45 p.m.

‘Nothing Confirmed’ according to Fayetteville Police

1:50 p.m. Natalie Eucce with the Fayetteville Police Department said there have been multiple calls but “nothing confirmed” and, even though there was one vehicle detained, no arrests have been made. There are no confirmed gunshots, no confirmed crime scenes and no confirmed injuries. UAPD is the lead investigator and they are clearing every building where a call came in.

FAYETTEVILLE — Law enforcement officials are actively investigating an active shooter threat at Mullins Library on the University of Arkansas’ campus Monday afternoon after an active shooter was reported by the university.

RazALERT sent a text message to students and faculty members around 12:30 p.m.

“Avoid the area of Mullins Library due to an active shooter reported. Avoid. Deny. Defend,” the text message read.

The City of Fayetteville Police confirmed they are helping University of Arkansas Police.

As of roughly 1 p.m., the Washington County Sheriff’s Office hadn’t reported any injuries. According to CBS’ local affiliate 5NewsOnline, Washington County Sheriff’s Office personnel and the FBI were on the scene at Mullins Library.
