Alligator caught on porch cam trying to break into Florida home

Apparently, Florida’s alligators are not always stealthy when outside of the swamp.

The accompanying porch-camera footage, captured in the community of Ave Maria, shows a large alligator clumsily trying to scale a front door while apparently trying to gain entry into a home, as another gator watches from the porch.

“Welcome to Florida… where you might see gators casually climbing up the front door of your house,” joked Matt Devitt of WINK News.

Devitt’s followers chimed in with astute observations. One woman remarked, “I see a ‘for sale’ sign in front of that condo soon.”

Another response: “Thank goodness the owner didn’t open the door!”

One more: “That’s why some people call Florida Jurassic Park.”

These types of incidents are rare, but alligators generate headlines fairly regularly in Florida.

According to the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC), alligators inhabit every county in the state.

The longest gator ever recorded in Florida measured 14 feet, 3-1/2 inches. The heaviest (a different gator) weighed 1,043 pounds.
