Delta Airlines Announces Major Changes to Flight Booking Process

Generate Key Takeaways

Delta Airlines is making big changes to its flight booking process this fall. The popular airline will roll out a revamped booking system starting October 1, which will offer more personalized options and hopefully streamline the reservation process for travelers.

The biggest change is the introduction of three new fare categories: Basic, Classic and Extra, the company announced on Thursday, May 15. Each category will come with its own set of perks and restrictions, and at the same time, give travelers more flexibility while they are booking their trips.

For example, the Basic fare, which is of course the most budget-friendly option, will come with more restrictions, like limited change options and no seat selection. (This is fairly standard on most airlines.)

The middle tier, the Classic Fare, offers that affordability and flexibility with benefits like advance seat selection and more generous baggage policies.

And finally, the Extra fare, the more premium option includes priority boarding, extra legroom and flexible ticket changes.

If you regularly fly Delta, this just means you’ll have more options when you book your next trip. Though, if you’re used to getting free checked bags or priority boarding, you may just need to choose a higher fare tier during booking, which again, isn’t a big departure from what most airlines do.
