The paid version of Coinbase
Coinbase is not only the largest crypto exchange in the United States, but it is also a company listed on the Nasdaq stock exchange.
In fact, it is the main crypto point of reference in the USA, that is, in the largest single market in the world for this sector.
The exchange was launched as early as 2012, the year of the first halving of Bitcoin, when a BTC was worth less than $10.
It has always been free, and over time it has grown to become one of the leading ones in the world, as well as the leading one in the USA.
Today it claims to have more than 100 million users.
However, the current version is no longer that of 2012.
Not only has it grown a lot, but the company has added countless services, including the famous Coinbase Prime aimed at institutional investors.
Therefore, it is no longer a single free platform open to everyone, but a suite of platforms and various services dedicated to different types of users.
One of these types is that of retail who want something more from a crypto exchange, and it is probably for them that the company launched the paid version Coinbase One Basic.
Coinbase One Basic
Coinbase One Basic is designed particularly for those interested in saving and stacking services.
This is a monthly subscription that allows you to get zero commissions on trading, priority support, enhanced rewards for staking, and more.
For example, subscribers to Coinbase One receive 10 USD of gas to spend on Base every month, in addition to exclusive partner offers on this blockchain. Base is the layer-2 on Ethereum developed by Coinbase.
Coinbase, however, also reminds that although with Coinbase One Basic you get the elimination of fees on trading, there is still always a spread and limitations may be applied.
Most likely, the true heart of this offer is the enhanced APY, aimed precisely at those who are staking or saving.
Furthermore, there is always also Coinbase One Premium, which has no limit, zero trading fees, and access to concierge support, but it is another subscription with a higher cost.
Coinbase One Basic is practically the basic and discounted version of Coinbase One Premium.
The free version
Current users of the exchange who do not wish to subscribe to the Coinbase One membership can continue to use the free version exactly as they are doing now.
In fact, the company has announced neither any restriction on the services currently provided on the free version, nor its suspension.
In other words, as has already been the case in the past for many of the other services already offered by the company for a fee, Coinbase One is just an optional additional service that offers some advantages, but if desired, it can also simply be ignored.
It is certain, however, that for those who engage in saving and staking, the possibility of relying on enhanced APY could be particularly interesting, especially when the invested amounts are not small. Practically, with less than 5 dollars a month, one can significantly increase earnings without doing anything.
Much, however, will depend on how much the APY will be boosted, and especially if over time the boost will remain significant or will be reduced.
Therefore, it is possible that the majority of the hundred million users of the exchange will find it convenient to continue using the current free version, and that perhaps only a not particularly significant portion may be interested in the new paid version.
