Donald Trump’s Old Ferrari Just Fetched a Fortune

  • US President Donald Trump’s F430 sells for $999,999 USD, six times its market value.
  • Pristine Ferrari shows less than 10,000 miles on the odometer.
  • Last year, his Lamborghini Diablo sold for nearly double its original price.

If you’re the President of the United States, everything you touch becomes gold. Whether it’s a golf kit, an autograph, or a car, a President’s name attached to an object makes it much more valuable. This is exactly the case with Donald Trump’s 2007 Ferrari F430, which sold for a million dollars; a price tag that seems outrageous unless you factor in the sheer power of celebrity ownership.

The Presidential Premium

Trump’s F430 was put up for auction by Rockstar Car Auctions in January, just before Trump’s inauguration, and was sold on March 9th. Its starting bid was just under $45,000 USD (~$71,000 AUD). The car is one of Ferrari’s finest naturally-aspirated V8 supercars and has a Rosso Corsa paint job protected by a paint protection film.

The car, that is almost two decades old, also has a luxurious tan interior and has been kept in near-mint condition, showing fewer than 10,000 miles on the odometer. Its features include an F1 robotised manual transmission, a full carbon-fiber interior package, and Scuderia shields on the fenders. It even came with all its original Ferrari-branded accessories — seat covers, a car cover, and a matching carry bag.

While a well-kept F430 will always be desirable, it’s safe to say that the final price of $999,999 USD wasn’t about the car itself. The fact that it once belonged to Trump was the real selling point. Without Trump’s name attached, experts suggest it would have sold for around $150,000 USD.

Trump’s Lamborghini Diablo

This isn’t the first time a Trump-owned car has made big bucks. Last year, his 1996 Lamborghini Diablo VT Roadster — a limited-edition model with only 450 units produced — sold for $1.1 million USD which is nearly double its expected market value.

One reason Trump is selling his cars could be that presidents are not allowed to drive during their term, or maybe he is clearing garage space for something new. Given his recent public admiration for Elon Musk, could a Tesla be next? Who knows. But one thing is for sure: any item attached to Trump will sell for a much higher price than its original value.
