El Paso County Sheriff’s Office said that on July 4, the department’s East Montana Patrol Station Criminal Investigations Unit received a report of illegal dumping in a desert area near Montana Vista.

In addition to the report, photographs, taken by a citizen, were included showing the two men discarding debris, EPCSO said.

The Criminal Investigations Unit launched an investigation and identified the suspects as Mario Hernandez and Derek Hernandez, EPCSO said.

EPCSO said deputies located the dumping site and saw approximately 12 cubic feet of waste. Based on the volume of the debris, two Class B misdemeanor warrants were issued for illegal dumping.

Mario Hernandez and Derek Hernandez then voluntarily surrendered and were taken into custody, EPCSO said.
