Gunfire reported near downtown Grand Junction

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KREX) — The Grand Junction Police Department (GJPD) responded to incidents of reported gunfire Friday near Rood Avenue and North 10th Street.

Residents reported a man allegedly fired rounds in the area around 11 a.m. Officers are gathering reports from multiple witnesses. GJPD reportedly found a firearm and spent cartridge casings upon arriving on the scene.

One individual was detained about a block away from the initial incident. The male suspect, whose name was not disclosed in the news release, was taken into custody without incident.

No injuries were reported.

Although initial reports indicated that shots may have come from a nearby home, the investigation showed the suspect fired several shots into the air at the corner of 10th and Rood,

The GJPD stated that there is no ongoing threat to the area and recommended that the public stay out of the area while they investigate.
