Holonym Acquires Gitcoin Passport to Build the Largest Proof of Humanity Network
In order to build the biggest Proof of Humanity solution in the world, the Holonym Foundation has announced that it has acquired Gitcoin Passport. Human.tech will roll out 34.5M ZK credentials with Gitcoin Passport’s 2M users, which is expected to generate more than three times Worldcoin’s identity proofs.
With the acquisition of Gitcoin Passport, Holonym Foundation will establish itself as the industry leader in Sybil detection and privacy-preserving onchain reputation. It will integrate the Human Network’s Human Key technology with Gitcoin Passport’s reliable identity verification platform.
Human.tech is a suite of tools created to improve financial independence, privacy, and personal freedom. Human.tech offers safe solutions for financial access, authentication, and private identity verification. The foundation of human.tech is a strong and expandable network protected by cryptographic infrastructure supported by billions of USD in ETH.
In accordance with the acquisition terms, Gitcoin Passport will rebrands its name to Human Passport to more accurately represent its position as a Proof of Humanity tool that lets users verify their identities without revealing personal data.
Web3 users will be able to easily manage their data and online authentication using Human Passport, a Proof of Humanity protocol that transforms the digital identity landscape.
Holonym Foundation CEO and Co-Founder Shady El Damaty said:
“Digital identity that preserves privacy and allows individuals to control their data is the future of online interactions. Integrating Gitcoin Passport and launching human.tech is a major leap forward in empowering digital human rights.”
Gitcoin Passport Founder Kevin Owocki said:
“Gitcoin Passport has always been about empowering individuals with tools to show off their human-ness in a privacy-preserving way. With human.tech taking the helm, Passport is evolving into something even greater: an identity layer that champions human dignity, privacy, and verifiable trust on the internet. This transition strengthens our shared mission to build open, decentralized systems that serve people first.”
Gitcoin Passport, which is used by most major chains and blockchain ecosystems, offers more than 110 partners advanced reputation tooling. With more than $200 million in airdrops secured thanks to its Proof of Humanity Score, it has established itself as the leading platform for thwarting Sybil attacks, facilitating secure and equitable token distributions, and promoting the use of decentralized identity and reputation.
A vital component of the human.tech suite, the service will be relaunched as the Human Passport and improved with the inclusion of zero knowledge capacity for private onchain reputation. By combining the Human Network of the Holonym Foundation with the trusted humanity proofs of Gitcoin Passport, web users will be able to take advantage of a universal identity solution that prioritizes privacy.
