QUEENS, N.Y. (PIX11) — More than 300 migrants were arrested at JFK Airport in the last two months, according to U.S. border officials.

U. S. Customs and Border Protection officers detained 194 migrants in March and 135 in February, authorities said.

“Our employees are dedicated to CBP’s mission of keeping those who would wish to harm us or break our laws, out of the United States,” said Francis J. Russo, Director of CBP’s New York Field Operations.

In January, ICE agents arrested dozens of migrants in New York City accused of committing crimes, authorities said. A top target in raids was 25-year-old Anderson Zambrano-Pacheco, an alleged leader of the Tren de Aragua terrorist gang from Venezuela, DHS told PIX11 News.

After the influx of hundreds of thousands of migrants in the past few years, the city has begun shutting down migrant shelters.

More than a dozen shelters in the five boroughs, including the massive and controversial Hall Street facility in Brooklyn, are expected to close by the summer, removing 10,000 beds in total, Mayor Eric Adams announced in January.

The mayor previously said that 25 shelter sites would close by March 2025, including Floyd Bennet Field and Randall’s Island. By June, 20% of emergency shelters opened for the crisis will have closed, Adams said.

The following shelters will close by June 2025:

  • Hall Street Humanitarian Emergency Response and Relief Center, Brooklyn

  • Holiday Inn Express, Brooklyn

  • 99 Washington Humanitarian Emergency Response and Relief Center, Manhattan

  • The Stewart Humanitarian Emergency Response and Relief Center, Manhattan

  • The Watson Humanitarian Emergency Response and Relief Center, Manhattan

  • Holiday Inn/Staten Island Inn, Staten Island
