Man accused of Sunday morning rape in Prattville park
PRATTVILLE − Police in Prattville are investigating a Sunday morning rape in a city park.
Roderick Harris of Prattville is charged with rape and sodomy in the case, said Police Chief Mark Thompson.
A passing patrol car was “flagged down” about 8 a.m. and the officer was told there was a sexual assault taking place in the park’s restrooms, the chief said. Several units “converged quickly” on the park and Harris was taken into custody with the “..aid of modernized security and surveillance equipment in the park,” Thompson said.
Harris and the victim arrived at the park together, and surveillance footage showed “… the two sat having a conversation for some time,” Thompson said. When the alleged victim attempted to walk away and get into her vehicle, Harris allegedly forced her into a park restroom and sexually assaulted her, the chief said.
Harris is being held without bond pending an Aniah’s Law hearing, records show.
