Man arrested in connection with sexual assault of jogger in Ventura
A suspect has been arrested on suspicion of a woman’s sexual assault reported in mid-August in Ventura, police announced.
The woman reported that she was jogging near Saratoga Avenue and Thille Street on the night of Aug. 11 when a male stranger called out, followed and grabbed her, pulled her to the ground and sexually assaulted her before running away in an unknown direction. The attack occurred between 9:30 and 10 p.m., according to the Ventura Police Department.
Police said they made an intensive effort to solve the case, including increased patrols in the neighborhood near the Ventura County Government Center where the attack was reported. Investigators also canvassed door to door to gather video and speak with potential witnesses.
The suspect was arrested and booked into county jail Aug. 20 on suspicion of rape and kidnapping to commit another crime, jail records show.
The 25-year-old Ventura man was reportedly on parole for assault with a deadly weapon other than a firearm at the time of the arrest.
He remained in jail on the evening of Aug. 22 and is ineligible for release.
His next court appearance is set Aug. 26.
