Man shoots fiancé to death at her Jensen Beach business

JENSEN BEACH — A man shot his fiancé to death at her custom sewing business early today or late Saturday night, police said.

Martin County Sheriff’s Office deputies arrested Javier Saenz, 43, today and charged him with the shooting of Tonya Sidebottom, 55, at the storage facility where she operates her business.

The shooting occurred late Saturday, Aug. 9, or possibly early Sunday morning, Aug. 10, according to the Sheriff’s Office’s social media page.

She was shot once by Saenz, whom deputies described as her “boyfriend/fiancé,” deputies said. Saenz called 911 after the shooting, requesting medical assistance. Despite lifesaving efforts by deputies and Fire Rescue personnel, Sidebottom was pronounced dead at an area hospital.

Saenz was arrested when deputies and Martin County Fire Rescue personnel arrived. He is being held in the Martin County Jail.

Deputies did not release an exact time of the shooting, specific details of the incident or details about the suspect. Detectives are investigating the motive for the shooting. The Martin County Sheriff’s Office will update the case as more information becomes available, officials said.
