Attackers stab brother, sister on a late-night beach adventure in Santa Monica

Two siblings were hospitalized after being stabbed at the beach in Santa Monica early Saturday morning.

On Sunday, one of the victims reached out to KTLA to give her and her brother’s side of the story, and to ask for help identifying and finding the suspects.

Requesting to keep her name confidential, the 28-year-old sister said that she, her 24-year-old brother, his girlfriend and her two friends were on a late-night trip to the beach when the attack happened.

She said it was around 1 a.m. on Saturday when her group went down to the beach, just wanting to dip their toes in the water. Before they got to the sand, the sister said they noticed two men from a distance, seeming to be drinking and riding their scooters on the boardwalk.

The sister said she found it suspicious, but they carried on with their adventure anyway. Later on, however, they again noticed the same men – but this time, they seemed to be getting closer and closer to her group.

The two men eventually approached her and her brother and purportedly began verbally harassing them. The sister said that her brother was trying to protect her and his girlfriend and her other friends during the confrontation.

She said it then escalated, that the men pulled out pocket knives and began threatening them. At some point, the sister and others in the group managed to record the suspects, and she shared some footage with KTLA.

The sister begged the two men to leave her and her brother alone, but the suspects didn’t listen, and instead physically attacked and lunged at both of them with their knives.

The group was able to escape to safety, and the sister said she and her brother ran toward the parking lot to get to their car.

Police confirmed that at about 2:26 a.m. Saturday, officers responded to reports of a stabbing in the 1700 block of Ocean Front Walk.

According to the Santa Monica Police Department, two victims were found suffering from stab wounds.

Officials did not immediately provide the extent of the patients’ injuries, but the sister said she was stabbed four times – in her head, her back and under her armpit area. Her brother was stabbed five times, with hits to his stomach and back.

First responders transported the siblings to a local hospital, where SMPD said they remained in stable condition on Saturday.

The sister said on Sunday that she was finishing her recovery at home while her brother remained in the hospital, where he was expected to stay for a week.

Officials did not immediately provide any information on the suspects, nor confirm with the sister’s footage.

Police said the investigation is active and ongoing and will share additional details when available.
