Despite high hopes, AI-driven agents that are supposed to do freelance work, face key limitations. In one study, they earned under 3 % of the available $143,991 in value of jobs, earning only $1,810. In particular, AI agents struggle with long and multi-step tasks, vague client instructions, and environments with real external tools (such as login problems and CAPTCHA). Furthermore, they lack accountability for real and original quality. Freelance platforms currently allow for AI use only under human supervision. This illustrates that AI agents are only assistants, not freelancers.
