Midnight Airdrop Sees 250M NIGHT Claimed Under 24 Hours As ADA Ledger Users Face Issues

Midnight Network’s NIGHT token airdrop has recorded over 250 million tokens claimed within the first 24 hours. This comes after the Glacier Drop was introduced, which gave users in eight significant blockchain ecosystems rewards. Meanwhile, users of the ADA Ledger are facing difficulties, prompting a technical fix from the Midnight team.

Midnight Records Over 250M NIGHT Claimed in Record Time

Cardano founder Charles Hoskinson shared in a post that over 250 million NIGHT tokens have already been claimed within 24 hours of their launch. This signals early momentum and high confidence in the token’s potential for growth.

The Midnight Foundation officially kicked off its NIGHT token airdrop this week, opening claims to holders of ADA, BTC, ETH, XRP, and other cryptocurrencies. Built with a focus on privacy-centric utility, the NIGHT token is being distributed through a phased initiative known as the Glacier Drop.

The claim portal became live and accessible via midnight.gd. Eligible users, those who held at least $100 in supported assets at the time of a June 11 snapshot, have 60 days to redeem their NIGHT allocation.

Notably, Cardano holders are receiving the lion’s share of the airdrop. 50% of the total NIGHT supply is reserved for ADA holders. Bitcoin holders follow with 20%, while the remaining 30% is split among users holding ETH, XRP, SOL, BNB, AVAX, and BAT, proportionally to their USD values at the snapshot time.

ADA Ledger Users Encounter Technical Roadblock

Despite the strong adoption, many ADA Ledger users reported immediate issues. The users were unable to confirm ownership of their wallets due to a bug in Ledger’s implementation of the Cardano Improvement Proposal CIP-8.

Hoskinson quickly addressed the issue publicly, confirming that a temporary fix would be rolled out. The workaround involves signing a null transaction that embeds the required 251-byte payload within transaction metadata.

“This will only have to be done for ADA ledger users,” Hoskinson clarified. “i will remind everyone that the glacier drop process is a 2 month event. There is no difference redeeming today or a few weeks from now..”

The development team further confirmed that this workaround would be integrated into the Glacier Drop claim portal. This would allow impacted users to complete their claim by late August.

Additionally, Bob Blessing Hartley, CTO of Shielded Technologies, explained the reasoning behind the workaround in a detailed video statement. He also emphasized the team’s decision to prioritize wallet security across all supported ecosystems. This would mean delaying full compatibility with some hardware wallets.

Furthermore, Hartley reassured ADA users that their allocations were locked in based on historical snapshots and wouldn’t be affected by the delay. As the NIGHT distribution continues, Midnight is reinforcing its mission of bringing “rational privacy” to the Web3 space. This offers users the means to control how and when their data is shared, without compromising security.
