New York’s Most Expensive Penthouse Just Posted Its Record-Breaking Price Tag

  • New York continues to break records with its luxury real estate market.
  • A stunning penthouse atop the Steinway Tower takes exclusivity to new heights.
  • Listed at $110 million USD (~$185 million AUD), it may become the most expensive home in the city.

If there’s one thing New York City never runs out of, it’s ambition. Whether it’s building sky-high towers on impossibly thin plots of land or slapping jaw-dropping price tags on pieces of real estate, the Big Apple has a knack for pushing boundaries – and bank accounts. Now, the latest milestone is a $110 million USD (~$185 million AUD) penthouse that’s set to claim the title of the most expensive home in the city.

This new Penthouse 80 is located at the very top of Steinway Tower (also known as 111 West 57th Street) and isn’t your typical luxury apartment. It’s more like a vertical palace in the clouds that covers four floors and nearly 11,480 square feet, making it a building that’s already rewriting architectural rules.

Steinway Tower and Its Architectural Marvel

Standing at 1,428 feet tall and with a ridiculous height-to-width ratio of 24:1, Steinway Tower holds the title of the slimmest skyscraper in the world. It was designed by SHoP Architects with interiors by Studio Sofield and combines sharp, modern lines with nods to New York’s Gilded Age glamour. The exterior is a mix of bronze and glass that shimmers like it’s trying to outshine the skyline itself.

Now imagine capping that off with Penthouse 80, which is a four-story residence covering floors 80 to 83. It comes with 360-degree views of Central Park and the Manhattan skyline, two massive terraces, and an extraordinarily luxurious interior.

We’re talking five bedrooms (each with its own ensuite), six full bathrooms, and a top-floor Crown Suite complete with a private bar, screening room, a service kitchen and yet another terrace for hosting unforgettable gatherings. The level of luxury in the finishes, from exquisite onyx bathrooms to intricate details in every corner, makes this property a one-of-a-kind living space.

Of course, if you’re dropping nine figures on a penthouse, you’re not just here for the marble and the view. You want perks. And Steinway Tower doesn’t disappoint. Residents get access to an 82-foot lap pool, a tricked-out Technogym fitness centre, a golf simulator, and the only indoor padel court in Manhattan. There’s even a private restaurant – Le Bilboquet – with complimentary breakfast that makes the term “continental” sound embarrassingly underwhelming.

The building itself had a rocky start—slow sales, price corrections, the usual luxury market hiccups — but listing Penthouse 80 at $110 million is a clear signal that Steinway Tower is back to swinging for the fences and is aiming to attract New York’s wealthiest clientele.

The penthouse’s combination of location, design, altitude, and sheer exclusivity makes it the kind of property that is worth every single dizzying dollar for the right buyer and if it sells at asking, it won’t just be a win for Steinway Tower — it’ll rewrite the record books for NYC real estate.
