Series of events unfolds in Grand Junction, leaving one man seriously injured
GRAND JUNCTION Colo. (KREX)- A chaotic series of events unfolded Saturday night in Grand Junction, sending first responders to multiple locations and leaving one man seriously injured.
What initially appeared to be one connected crime turned out to be two separate incidents occurring around the same time, leading to multiple arrests.
Around 8:45 p.m., officers responded to reports of vandalism involving a gun at the Sprouts Farmers Market parking lot. The reports described several individuals breaking car windows. By the time authorities arrived, many of the vehicles had left the area.
Shortly after, a gunshot victim was found in the Sam’s Club parking lot. The injured man was rushed to the hospital with serious injuries, though his current condition has not been released.
Not long after, a vehicle matching the description of a suspect was reported driving out of control near Mesa Mall. When police attempted to stop the car, the driver fled, leading to a car chase that ended in a crash. The two people inside the vehicle sustained minor injuries and were taken to the hospital. Investigators later determined they were not connected to the shooting.
18-year-old Dangelo Saenz, the driver of the car, was arrested on multiple charges, including felony menacing, attempted vehicular assault, and felony eluding.
The following day, Sunday, August 24, officers from Grand Junction, along with law enforcement from Montrose, tracked down the man believed to be involved in the Sam’s Club shooting. The investigation led to the arrest of 45-year-old Arthur Lucas, who now faces charges of first-degree assault and illegal discharge of a firearm.
The investigation remains active, and no further details have been released at this time.
