SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) — All lanes of Interstate 805 southbound, just north of National City, were shut down for several hours on Saturday morning due to a major traffic collision, authorities confirmed.
California Highway Patrol first reported the incident around 8:50 a.m. The crash site is located north of 43rd Street.
FOX 5/KUSI reached out to CHP for more information, only confirming at this time that the freeway was shutdown in the area due to a multi-vehicle collision, gridlocking traffic.
It’s unknown how many vehicles were involved, though FOX 5/KUSI crews photographed at least three mangled vehicles at the scene.
Shortly before 1 p.m., Caltrans provided an update, explaining that the three left lanes have since reopened to traffic while the two right lanes remain closed.
A press release from CHP is expected to arrive to the newsroom shortly.
This is a developing story. Please check back for more details.
