‘Swatting’ call attempted at Las Vegas home of FBI director
LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — A swatting call was reported at the Las Vegas home of the director of the FBI on Tuesday morning.
The call was reported at around 11:15 a.m. on Tuesday, June 3. The caller claimed an active crime was being committed at a residence, which happened to be the Las Vegas home of FBI Director Kash Patel.
Police reached out to the residence and were able to determine that it was a false call before any response was sent to the home.
“Swatting” is a false reporting of an emergency with the intent of getting a SWAT team sent to a location where no emergency exists, according to public safety information.
Patel, 45, became the ninth Director of the FBI on Feb. 20, 2024. Originally from New York, Patel started his career in 2005 as a public defender in Florida.
Since the beginning of his career, he has worked for the Department of Justice, served on the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence, and has led congressional oversight of programs for the Intelligence Community and U.S. Special Operations Forces, according to the FBI website.
