This TAG Heuer Monaco Split Seconds Is One For Formula 1’s Biggest Fans

  • TAG Heuer has released an all-new Monaco Split Seconds to celebrate its F1 partnership.
  • Ultra-limited to 10 pieces, this Monaco is built from white ceramic and sapphire crystal.
  • Features a translucent red dial with asphalt-textured subdials and David Croft’s iconic “LIGHTS OUT & AWAY WE GO” call.

TAG Heuer’s back in the driver’s seat of Formula 1, and in typical style, it’s not easing up with timely releases. To celebrate this historic brand’s return as the sport’s Official Timekeeper, TAG Heuer has taken a look at some of its most iconic collections, unleashing a watch that’s as fast, loud, and precise as the machines it now has the esteemed job of timing: the TAG Heuer Monaco Split-Seconds Chronograph F1.

Only 10 of these will exist… and it shows. This limited edition piece, built from white ceramic and sapphire crystal, boasts a formidable 41mm square case that will no doubt be the first feature to turn horological heads in Geneva this week, and takes TAG Heuer’s Avant-Garde Horlogerie and goes full throttle.

And with good reason. Peek through the Monaco’s openworked dial and you’ll spot one of TAG’s wildest movements to date: the Calibre TH81-00, a rattrapante automatic chronograph made with Vaucher Manufacture Fleurier. This complication allows for the simultaneous measurement of intermediate times with unparalleled accuracy, a feature as vital on the track as it is in advanced watchmaking.

But let’s talk about the dial, available in Formula 1 red, with asphalt-textured counters, a race-style font, and two words that’ll get any motorsport fan’s pulse racing at pole: “LIGHTS OUT” and “& AWAY WE GO”, lifted from commentator David Croft’s now-iconic (unofficial) Grand Prix claxon.

This isn’t just a Monaco for collectors, it’s one for the paddock. It’s surprising to see that TAG Heuer is willing to rework one of its most iconic collections as part of the wider partnership. But if the Swiss brand was going to take a look at any of its archive, there would be few available that could boast the same motorsport pedigree as the Monaco.
