MINNEAPOLIS (FOX 9) – A shooting injured two people outside Mariucci Arena on the University of Minnesota campus Friday night during the Wayzata High School graduation ceremony. One suspect is in custody.
U of M officials said the victims, a 49-year-old man and a 19-year-old man, are in stable condition as of Saturday afternoon.

What we know
According to the University of Minnesota Police Department, at approximately 8:20 p.m. Friday, May 30, a shooting occurred outside Mariucci Arena following the Wayzata graduation ceremony. UMPD responded to the scene, and paramedics transported two victims to Hennepin County Medical Center.
One suspect is in custody, and police do not believe there is an ongoing threat to the area.
What we don’t know
As of late Friday night, we don’t know if the victims or suspect are at all connected to the Wayzata High School graduation ceremony.
What they’re saying
In a social media post, U of M Regent James Farnsworth called the incident “very disturbing and scary” while updating that people with knowledge of the situation “don’t believe any students were harmed.”
Governor Tim Walz has also weighed in, saying on social media, “As officials take the suspect into custody, I’m praying for the injured. We’re in touch with UMN public safety, and the state stands ready to help in any way we can.”

This is an active UMPD investigation with the assistance of the Minneapolis Police Department and the Hennepin County Sheriff’s Office.
